Sheds, Greenhouses and Polytunnels

Sheds, Greenhouses & Polytunnels

Rules and General Guidance in relation to Sheds, Greenhouses and Polytunnels

1.     Permission in writing must be granted by the Committee before a member purchases and installs a shed, greenhouse or polytunnel.

2.     The position of the shed, greenhouse or polytunnel must be agreed by the Committee (so as not to interfere with light to those surrounding plots).

3.     The structure must be placed within the member’s plot and be at least six inches from any path in order to allow access for grass strimming and mowing to take place.

4.     The structure must not be placed directly next to hedges and allow a sufficient boundary, in order to allow access for cutting the hedges to take place.

5.     All sheds, greenhouses and polytunnels should be kept in a good state of repair.

6.     The Committee reserves the right to inspect the state of repair of all sheds, greenhouses and polytunnels during tenancy and to request the removal of any structure at the end of tenancy if deemed necessary.

7.     The Committee reserves the right to request the removal of any structure at the end of tenancy prior to a member vacating their plot.

8.     For maximum permitted sizes of each structure see below.

Additional rules and guidance

Sheds

Maximum size for a shed is 6ft x 4ft.

It is advisable that items of any monetary or sentimental value are not stored in sheds.

Greenhouses

Maximum size for a greenhouse is 6ft x 4ft

For safety reasons, any greenhouse panels must be made of polycarbonate. Glass greenhouses are not allowed on site.

Polytunnels

Maximum size for a polytunnel is 4m x 2m

Polytunnels and/or their covers are at high risk of being caught in high winds and causing damage to crops and structures on other plots. Owners must take particular care to:

·       Securely anchor the polytunnel framework to the ground

·       Securely attach the cover to the framework

·       Keep the polytunnel in good repair and purchase new covers as and when necessary due to deterioration.

It is recommended that covers are removed in the winter months to minimize the risk of causing damage.

The Committee reserves the right to check the anchoring of both the frame and cover of any polytunnel to reduce the risk of damage to property.
